I-75 Alligator Alley Environmental Education Project
HBC supported a 0.71-mile rest area improvement along SR-93/I-75 with lighting, signing, and pavement marking design that made the site safer, easier to navigate, and more accessible for travelers.
HBC provided design services across several disciplines for a 0.71-mile rest area improvement project along SR-93/I-75. The work supported a broader site upgrade that reconfigured parking and access roads, added pedestrian crossings and sidewalks, and introduced amenities such as boardwalks, pavilions, dog walking areas, wetland exhibits, and interpretive signage.
Our team designed the signing and pavement marking plan to make circulation clearer for both drivers and pedestrians. The layout supported updated traffic patterns, improved wayfinding, and smoother re-entry to SR-93/I-75, all in accordance with FDOT and MUTCD requirements.
HBC also designed the site lighting system using a mix of high-mast and conventional LED fixtures for parking areas, sidewalks, and crossings. The work included photometric analysis, voltage drop calculations, and fixture selection, with special attention to nighttime visibility, environmental sensitivity, and lighting for two new midblock crossings.
